'Susan' - a hybrid of M. liliiflora ‘Nigra’ and M. stellata ‘Rosea’; part of the Little Girl series of hybrid magnolias; flowers 2-4 weeks later than M. stellata and M. x soulangiana, reducing potential of frost damage; compact shrubby habit; late blooming (mid-April to early May); slow-growing; grows to 8-12’ tall; flowers (to 5” wide) are purple-red or fuchsia, with paler tones inside; flowers are fragrant; reblooms in summer
