Cultivar: Independence for Ulmus americana

Notes

‘Independence’ - a hybrid created from a cross of Ulmus americana ‘Moline’ and Ulmus americana W 185-21; it is one of six clones that comprise the much-heralded ‘American Liberty’ multi-clone variety; develops an upright, vase-shaped crown typical of the species; has demonstrated tolerance to DED, but may be quite susceptible to elm yellows (a relatively rare disease in the Midwest)
